On the 17th and 18th of October CIDLeS together with more than 30 volunteers organized the first International Conference on Endangered Languages in Europe at Centro Ciência Viva do Alviela (Carsoscópio) in Alcanena / Portugal – one of the activities of ELE 2013, an event entirely dedicated to the endangered languages in Europe. During the conference 90 researchers from all over the world presented their work on several minority languages in Europe, discussed their current status and future perspectives. There were special sessions on language technologies, multilingualism, language documentation and revitalization, minority languages in the Iberian Peninsula, and language policy. A round table with intensive discussion about new speakers of minority languages and a workshop on language documentation and revival through online technologies were two other highlights of the conference.

Thank you to all participants, presenters, chairs, and the scientific committee for their high-quality contributions and for making this conference so interdisciplinary.

In the evenings of 18th and 19th of October 6 bands (Lleuwen Steffan, Bandalheira, Toibi 4.7, Grampoder, Macanta, and Enkore) performed at the Endangered Languages Music Festival in the Fábrica de Cultura in Minde. For most of the bands it was the first opportunity to perform at a festival entirely dedicated to their own languages. This, together with the atmosphere in the factory, made the event so special and unique. Thank you to all the bands for your commitment and great music.
